Cat's Cradle. Watercolor on Bristol board. 8x10". 2021. Original watercolor painting.

    SYMBOLISM

A read-headed woman plays cat's cradle with her own heart strings and nerves, as ghostly, white arms reach in a gentle embrace from behind her, to take their turn twisting the strings. Tiny red roses bloom from the jewel-like cavern of the woman's open chest. Behind her head, a halo or crown-like ring of crows hold human eyes, gazing out from open beaks. Giant blue iris flowers bloom in the background.

This piece is about intentionally, playfully, and patiently deprogramming and rewiring internalized culture, in collaboration with spirit and landscape. It's about the willingness to be changed by natural forces and graceful minds outside the self, as to be changed willfully by one's own drives and values.
